Insights & Strategy

Why Qualification Is Key to Success.

Qualification frameworks are structured question sets. Sales, marketing, and partner teams use them to collaboratively determine which opportunities have real potential, who the actual decision-makers are, and when it’s worth investing effort. They are the opposite of gut instinct and exactly the tool a team needs to stay focused rather than just busier.

The Quotaforge Qualification Stack

Current market practice shows that teams combining early discovery with SPICED and late qualification with MEDDIC/MEDDPICC achieve significantly higher win rates than teams that rigidly apply only one framework. Quotaforge translates this into its own, named approach.

01 · Heating

Discovery

SPICED or CHAMP empathetically identify pain points, impact, and priority. Sales and marketing use the same guiding questions for lead qualification.

02 · Alloying

Qualification

The transition to MEDDIC or MEDDPICC criteria occurs as soon as a deal exhibits enterprise characteristics: multiple stakeholders, a volume exceeding €50k, and a formal purchasing process.

03 · Hardening

Anchoring

GPCTBA/C&I questions are incorporated into reviews of existing customers and partners to ensure that the initial transaction evolves into a multi-year relationship.

A common mistake when introducing frameworks: they fail when a team uses them as a rigid checklist rather than as a conversation guide. Asking questions mechanically, rather than understanding the underlying logic, makes conversations feel like an interrogation.

This is precisely why the live coaching format of the 8-week program is superior to a simple downloadable framework guide: A PDF explains the logic but doesn’t train you to apply it in a real, unpredictable conversation. A downloadable framework cheat sheet is in the works.

Frequently Asked Questions

The most common questions teams ask about qualification, alignment, and visibility.

What’s the difference between MEDDIC and SPICED?

SPICED is a discovery framework for the early stages of discussions and focuses on Situation, Pain, Impact, Critical Event, and Decision. MEDDIC, or MEDDPICC, is a qualification framework for more complex deals involving multiple stakeholders and a formal procurement process. Many teams start with SPICED and switch to MEDDPICC as soon as a deal takes on an enterprise-level scope.

How do I align marketing and sales?

By using a common qualification language that both teams apply consistently, a clear definition of what distinguishes a Marketing Qualified Lead from a Sales Qualified Lead, and a fixed response time for lead handoff. Read more in the article “Sales-Marketing Alignment.”

Which qualification framework is best suited for B2B SaaS?

That depends on the sales cycle. Short, transactional cycles with a product-led growth component are well-suited to SPICED, using BANT as a quick pre-qualification step by SDRs. As soon as multiple stakeholders and a formal purchasing process come into play, MEDDPICC is a better fit. The selection matrix above organizes this by provider type.

What’s the best sales training for tech companies?

That depends on your starting point. Quotaforge trains sales, marketing, and partner teams together, using real deals in real time instead of generic case studies, because isolated sales training usually doesn’t solve the actual problem: a lack of alignment between teams.
