MEDDPICC training: how to tell a good one

Search for MEDDPICC training and you will find courses, certificates and slide decks. In my view, most rollouts don't fail because people can't recite the eight letters. They fail because the framework never makes it from the workshop into live deals.

The short answer

A good MEDDPICC training runs on your own live deals, includes marketing and partner management and settles up front when MEDDPICC actually applies. At Quotaforge this happens in the 8-week Forging Process: cohorts of six or more participants, working on real opportunities, in English or German.

What MEDDPICC covers

MEDDPICC stands for Metrics, Economic Buyer, Decision Criteria, Decision Process, Identify Pain, Champion, Paper Process and Competition. The last two set it apart from MEDDIC and are exactly where large deals tend to slip at the last minute: the formal procurement process after the verbal yes, and the alternatives the customer is evaluating, including doing nothing at all. We explain each criterion in detail in MEDDIC and MEDDPICC.

How to tell a good training

First, it works with real cases. Generic case studies are comfortable but change little, because nobody in the room owns them. Hold your own pipeline against the eight criteria and you immediately see where an economic buyer is missing or a champion is merely friendly.

Second, it defines the scope. MEDDPICC is built for complex deals. Asking all eight in a first discovery call feels like an interrogation. In our Qualification Stack, teams switch to MEDDPICC only once a deal shows enterprise characteristics: several stakeholders, a volume above €50k or a formal purchasing process. Before that they use SPICED or CHAMP.

Third, it includes marketing and partners. If only sales speaks MEDDPICC, the handover from marketing and from the partner channel stays the old bottleneck. Shared criteria across all three teams are the real lever.

Fourth, it ends with a playbook managers can run on their own. A training that depends on the trainer after the last session has missed its point.

How it works at Quotaforge

The 8-week Forging Process has four phases: diagnosis and focus in weeks 1 and 2, skillset and mindset in weeks 3 and 4 with live sessions twice a week, toolset and systems in weeks 5 and 6 with playbook, mutual action plans and scoring, and anchoring and handover in weeks 7 and 8 with coaching on real cases and a before-and-after KPI review. If you want to strengthen a single role first, such as a new head of sales, Shadowing is the smaller entry point.

A note from practice: A MEDDPICC certificate on a CV says little about whether a team actually uses it in the forecast call. A better measure is how many opportunities have a named economic buyer and a tested champion after eight weeks.

Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently asked questions.

Is MEDDPICC training available in German and English?

Yes. Quotaforge trains MEDDPICC in German or English as part of the 8-week Forging Process for sales, marketing and partner teams at tech companies, software service providers and product manufacturers. Training happens on the participants' own live deals.

How long does MEDDPICC training take?

A workshop can teach the terms in a day. For MEDDPICC to stick, teams need practice on real deals over several weeks. Quotaforge's Forging Process therefore runs for eight weeks; first changes in conversation behavior usually show after two to three weeks.

When is MEDDPICC worth it?

Once deals have enterprise characteristics: several stakeholders, a volume above roughly €50k or a formal purchasing process. For short, transactional cycles MEDDPICC is too heavy and SPICED or CHAMP fit better.

What is the difference between MEDDIC and MEDDPICC?

MEDDPICC adds Paper Process, the formal procurement and contract process, and Competition, the alternatives the customer evaluates in parallel. In larger organizations both regularly cause deals to slip late.
